13:17 -14:12

Arf, I've catched a rather annoying cold. Sore throat and my nose is fubared. Good old Bauri treats us with some unreleased carefully crafted, elegant electroish tracks on his blog - really recommended that you pick these up (<3 purple nights).

eq^obefo
union palm
Haha! Two tracks I made six years ago. Stumbled upon 'em while browsing through my old HD. Have fun :-)

Phunk

D-styles & Dj flare - Carcass of mutilated humanoid [Slit Wrist, 2000]
Fifteen minutes of insane scratching techniques over a frantic electro beat grinding away while the cuts are layered ontop. Dope and menacing from back in the days of 1999, from the record 'Pharaohs of funk'. Mad scratch session, aah yeah f-f-freshh.

Frucktals

Lindstrom - I Feel Space (Freeform Reform Parts 1&2) [Playhouse, 2006] (buy)
A side of the I feel space remix 12", the B side is also great (even better in some ways). The space continues to haunt us, bitter sweetly so.

Breakestra - Stand up! [Ubiquity, 2005] (buy)
Funk is rare around here, but I love these guys. From their 2005 album 'Hit the floor'. Will be released as a single in april (the 11th?).

Funk D'Void & Phil Kieran - White lice
[Soma, 2006] (buy)
Glasgow producer Funk D'void of Soma fame will bless GBG this upcoming friday by playing at The Eye. No doubt, it will be mind blowing. This is how his latest release together with Phil Kieran sounds. The b-side contains a remix from Lee van Dowski which is slightly heavier.

Testing file-forge, tell me in the comment section if it sucks. Anyway, I copped some more records.. Praveen's Backed by spirits CD - was a little disappointed, too ambient and not very exciting at all, still a couple of nice tracks (I really digged his free demo/sample songs on his homepage). Better was Quench's Punctuated sampler on merck, very nice.

The picture was made by my very own 'Frucktal' generator program, am I not special?

Pom pom

Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm totally uninspired.

Alex Smoke - Snider [Soma, 2006] (buy)
Glasgow producer Alex Smoke's newest LP, 'Paradolia' contains many interesting tracks. This is one of them.

Movin' on

Vice is sometimes funny and I quote (from Vol2, Nr 6, "The food issue", page 22):

Apples should be illegal. What a terrible food. They never satisfy your hunger and they make way too much noise. Have you ever heard someone bite into an apple? It's disgusting. It sounds like a tree is falling inside someone's skull. Also, people look smug when they eat an apple. Like, "Ah, you know. Just eatin' an apple, doin' normal stuff. Readin' the paper." Gross. Stop eating apples. It is a pointless food.
He then goes on about some other foods that should be illegalised, like mangoes, pears, melons, walnuts, sangria, cookies dipped in milk, and lobster. I think lobsters are cool tho (\/)_oO_(\/) *clik clak*.

Ams uno - My contribution
[Labeless Illtelligence, 2005]
Yo! Ams delivers neat lyrics with a fluid flow on a wicked production. Uh huh.

Not breathing - Night driving
[KimoSciotic, 2004]
This is what he was thinking when making this song I think: "Bleep, blip, pew pew, glitch, thomp, plonk, zap, tick, du du du, bzzzz, crash."

Alex under - Fortuito (orginal mix) [Plus8, 2006] (buy)
Techno debut from the Spanish producer Alex Under, the EP is called 'Collage'.

Did not see handsomeboy technique yesterday, but did go to see some friends play their harmless pop - it was nice. Testing savefile.com for the Not breathing track, sux or rox?

Nondeterministic

I get very easily excited about music, but there's just so much good stuff out there. Here's some more things you shouldn't miss out on.

Florent - G Net
[K2, 2005] (buy)
Thick, pounding warm and handsome techno on Kompakt's off shoot K2 sub-label. Worthwhile your time, for sure.

Dole & Kom - Flight 815
(A1)
Dole & Kom - Monster eats the pilot
(B1) [Elektro.Komfort, 2006] (buy)
Superior quality rough tech-house on these two's newest four track EP, "Monster Eats The Pilot" which is one of those rare releases where every single track is awesome. So I had a bit of trouble choosing what song to post, I hope this selection makes you go buy the record.

Wednesday, March 22, 2006

O(n)

Oh dear, today's tracks are high quality shit. Best post in a while I reckon, if I may say so myself (and I certainly may!). I hope you enjoy, and remember: have fun, and buy the releases you like.

Yapacc - Floating
[Neuton, 2006] (buy)
From the freshly released Floating 12" comes this wonderful easy-listening, light house piece. Crystal clear, sweet - 10 minutes of bliss for the ears.

DuMonde - I feel you (Heiko Gemein's Elektronik Cut)
[Fate, 2006] (buy)
A slice of hot electro house, gonna make you wish it was weekend already (even more).

Nathan Fake - You Are Here
[Border community, 2006] (buy)
Nathan Fake is out with his album "Drowning in a sea of love" on Border community. It is all beautiful ranging in and around the ambient/electro/IDM genres (if you must label it...). I did not see this coming to be honest. Kudos to this producer who continues to amaze. Ulrich Schnauss and M83 influenced perhaps..?

Tomorrow Handsomeboy Technique plays at local place Nefertiti, I will try to be there.

14:28 - 15:26

Sixtoo - A to Zero [Vertical form, 2003]
I remember instantly loving sixtoo's production here but the vocals took another few listens before I appreciated. Hiphop of the non standard variety.

Duplex - Autosug [Clone, 2006] (buy)
Could first be heard on the 'Late night driving' LP, which was released in november 2005. It has now gotten the remix treatment by some well known fellas on the Autosug EP (released this march), which I suggest you go pick up from your dealer. Techno just the way we like it.

Rush

Keeping it brief today.

Alexander Robotnick - The Dark Side Of The Spoon (Bangkok Impact Rmx) [Creme organization, 2006] (buy)
Remix of this fella's old (1982!) song. Funky and groovy. There's a Lindstrom and Prince Thomas remix of the same track on the release, but I think Bangkok impact takes the prize here.

The Gasman - Freezer
[Planet mu, 2006] (buy)
Only listened to this album, "This one's for you" like 2 times, so this is pretty much just a random track that I liked. IDM I suppose (what the hell should one call it anyway? IDM is such a fag term..)

Radix - Boo [1999]
Free. Check those damn drums, jesus. Heard it again after so many years this weekend, it owns.

19:17 - extra friday electro treat

I don't think I will have time for a post tomorrow so here's an extra friday treat.

Dynarec - Yellow trigger
[Southern outpost, 2006] (buy)
Title track of his new EP. Brilliant, this guy isn't following the standard electro template that's for sure (if there even is such a thing, heh).

Dark vektor - Net adikted
[Drivecom, 2006] (buy)
This fella does, however he excels at it so no problem. Can see this working very well on the dancefloor. Again, this is the title track of the dudes newest outing. "Snabb electro är bra electro".

Appologizes for these rather crappy recordings, sound quality wise. My equipment is sub par.

Edit: If you haven't already, go listen to some remixes of Booka Shade's Mandarine Girl (thanks to Tape of course)!

Mighty mixes

Hoo haa it is friday, thank god, and to get you all warmed up for the weekend madness ahead take this!

Various - Blech, side b
[1995, Warp]
Yes, that's right. This is the B-side of the
tape-only warp mixtape from 1995, starts with some jump up, get down, funky electro boogie then moves into some more experimental territory. The a-side is of course mighty too, but not as party happy. I mean this is more than a decade old now, but it really doesn't sound cheesy. 30 minutes, can you relate?

Autechre - Lost -> Disjecta - Kracht
[1996, Warp]
Okay, continuing in the old school warp ways. Here is the intro to Blech II, just to tease you a bit. It is absolutely massive.

Mixes, more mixes - gotta catch 'em all. Check,
demovibes (part1, part2, part3, part4 each part is about 1h20min long with various genres of mostly electronic music), Exzakt's "Global Electronics vol 2" (track listing) pure pounding electro gems mixed superbly (1h20min). Alkama playing on TPOLM's laser sunday radio 23rd oct, 2005 - techno (1 hour), more tpolm LSR recordings here - don't sleep on these and do not miss the upcoming show this sunday. Up rough (hey booger!) soundsystem house/electro live gig, june 2005, excellent ~1hour.

Omega block

I haven't exactly been flooding ya'll with hiphop, so here are some solid pieces of instrumental goodness from 2005.

Blockhead - The art of walking
[Ninja tune, 2005] (buy)
It's catchy. "
Let the hummers hum, and the clappers clap, and the singers they just sing 'yeah, yeah, yeaaahh'!". From the album "Downtown science".

Omega one - Memento
[Nature sounds, 2005] (buy)
Check out that beautiful piano and the impressive percussion work. From the album "The Lo fi chronicles", sort of jazzy hiphop. Only one track feature vocals.

Wednesday, March 15, 2006

13:10 - 14:11

Time to take a break from all the house and techno for a wee bit and have a peep at some more headphone, home listening electronics.

Bibio - Quantock
[Mush, 2006] (buy)
Stephen Wilkinson alias Bibio makes cozy and lush guitar based quirky, beatless electronic music. Think something like BoC's the campfire headphase - only he did it before them (atleast release-wise). He has a new album out called "Hand cranked" on
Mush where this track is from. It all feels like some old movie with a sun bleached picture. Would be cool to make a remix of this whole album with some mad beats ontop etc because as is, it almost gets a little too repetitive for its own good. ("Woodington" is another superb track on this release btw)

Tstewart - Camp lejune
[Merck, 2006] (buy)
The man also known as Machine drum and Syndrone. "Living Exponentially" is his new album on merck, and it is good. It doesn't sound much machine drummy at all, which is refreshing. Travis is showing some serious producing proficiency. This and the song called "Jess" I like the most so far.

Itching for my record orders to get here.. deliver faster plz (*cough*boomkat*cough*)!

Impressive empty space

Buying course litterature is a major turn off for me with those insane prices. Don't have much choice though since the authors love to introduce 'new' editions every year where they restructure the whole book and add, remove random parts. Got my hands full with school, a webpage gig and I gotta get a new passport for my trip to the US in april, and lots of other stuff on my mind.

Jason Emsley - Function
[Platzhirsch, 2006] (buy)
Crisp, brooding minimal techno.

Phil Collins - Sussudio

"Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album,
Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite."

mc DJ's remix album of Sufjan Stevens Illinois, check Casmir!

Back to school

Bauri has been up to some good stuff, check his mix "hey it's friday and i got folköl", 70 minutes of different styles. He also recommended the Mirau label, which I had missed - thanks for the heads-up.

Arp aubert - Actress (feat. jan gazzara) [Mirau, 2005]
(buy)
Arp Aubert is Stephan Lorenz and Marco Niemerski. Actress EP. "Emo techno" :-)

I have also been checking out mc DJ's latest stuff - go get some.

Moo

Lazy saturday. I have had reports about spread-it being crappy (thanks protein), so I won't use that for a while, sorry for the inconvenience. First up is two glitchy minimal tracks.

Mathias Kaden - Spank
[Vakant, 2006]
Kaden's Pentaton EP is nice, Spank is B2.

[A]pendics shuffle - Dirty Bed (Westend Ghetto Remix)
[Adjunct, 2006]
B1. Off the "Hot guardian and the freestyle formula" release.

Drexciya - Andreaen Sand Dunes
[Tresor, 1999]
From the classic Neptune's Lair album. This feels so good. Drexciya in your face!

I missed the SunnO))) and Earth concerts plus after that Johan Dahlbäck behind the decks at Nefertiti/iDEALfestival yesterday. Maybe if I can be arsed I'll go see kid606 and vladisav delay today.

Dork

Blogger-rant[tm] coming up, skip if you (like me) hate that. I am officially retarded and hungover. Not only because I mistook RC's two month anniversary for the ninth when it's actually the 12th. Yesterday I, for some unambigious reason, threw my phone into the bushes and snow. I had to go pick it up today (atleast I remembered roughly where it was) - its behaviour is slightly modified. I also did some dialing under the influence which is not cool (can't you see I'm having a visit of ole Ågren?). Fuck, and all this ontop of me having my last basic math exam on friday (important). I am so fried. Luckily I have Markus Guentner to comfort me, his shit is the bomb as they say. As soon as my local pizza place opens up imma order something to eat, I'm starving. [blogger rant[tm] over] Anyway, Andreas Tilliander's set was ok (even though I poured like a full pint of beer on myself), I have seen him play once before and he didn't let me down this time either - quality. Let's continue on to the music (and the real reason you're here) shall we..

Night On Earth - Crux
[Kickboxer] (buy)
Honestly I haven't had a lot of time to listen properly to this and I'm mostly posting it to please
you. How unselfish isn't that?! I'm listening now (again) to it and it is solid techno. 2005 on Kickboxer and the B-side is just as fantastic.

Markus Guentner - All The Time (feat. Heiko Badje) (Renato Figoli remix)
[Ware] (buy)
Yeah, more from mr Guentner, his album "Lovely Society" is just that, lovely. I debated in my scizo brain a while if I should post this or "Option pt. II (Ziggy Kinder remix)"... no biggie, both rocks. I urge you to buy this.

Axel Bartsch - Redlight
[Kompakt] (buy)
Heavy and fresh off the Kompakt presses, released the 6th of March, 2006. I love this kind of shit. It's the A-side on the 'Light in the dark' 12", the B side is more thump-dahump but not quite as good I reckon.

See? I can totally make a post without electro, no problem *twitch*. Have fun and wish me some luck for tomorrow will you.

Edit: Put up some buy-links.

Half full

Been on a nostalgia trip, pumping classics through the speakers; Drexciya - Neptune's lair, Gescom - Keynell, Autechre - Anvil vapre, Aux88, Dyanmix II etc. And to top that off: yesterday Legowelt and Dj Overdose was playing live on radio xltronic.com, the set can be downloaded here - it was smashing, with a 90s miami bass, old school electro funk theme.

Sblex3plex - The Virtual Place is the Future
[FBI]
Alright, more sbles3plex means more electro. Released 2005 on Fundamental Bass Intelligence, the EP is called "The grid".

Michael Mayer - Pensum (Markus Guentner Mix)
[Kompakt]
I feel a bit bad because I have focused so much on electro. So here's some tech/minimal house from 2004 that I personally didn't got to hear before late '05. Off the Kompakt quality compilation "Kompakt 100".

Markus Guentner - All The Time (feat. Heiko Badje)
[Ware]
Beautiful minimal from Guentner in 2006. Taken from the groovy album, "Lovely Society". Buy this!

Ko-wreck technique - Metro dade (plaid mix)
[Warp]
And not to disappoint the IDM heads, here's the sweet plaid remix of Ko-wreck technique's (aka Push button objects + dj craze) Metro dade, from the EP "Ko-wrecktion", 1999!

Last few points:
* Started to watch Nathan Barely, it's a riot.
* Tonight @ Uppåt Framåt: Andreas Tilliander - see ya there.
* Tomorrow it's RC's second month anniversary. Yeeeehaaa.

Sbles3plex

I am trying to avoid spamming the blog with to
o much content, watering it down. But I can't help myself now.

Sbles3plex - Stop TV Control
Sbles3plex aka Dark Vektor - "Stop TV control" EP, 2002 on Djax-Up-Beats. Earliest electro house? This is the title track, and I can absolutely see myself dancing to this today in some random 'hip' place. Killer! His 2003 EP, "Pornobotic" on the same label is also worth checking.

Novamen - Lekkage
Released in 2000 (I think) on Bunker! Quality electro as you have come to expect from that place, the EP is called "The Hauge City".

Lein

Yesterday I placed two small orders, one on boomkat and one on juno. Was disappointed in seeing that mostly all the merck records (not cds) were out of stock. Can't quite make up my mind about todays post, resulting in three very different tracks.

The Seperatists - Circuit Dancer
[Soma, 2006]

Off the "Audiomer" EP. Old new school electro a la Rother. See the name?
Circuit Dancer - granted I had to post this, given that it kicks ass as well.

Quinn - No More Drama
[Delsin, 2006]

Warm house on Delsin, by Bram Sluiter. Tis nice sunshiny.

The Delays - Valentine
[Rough Trade, 2006]
Veering off into indie rock here. I like it, kinda 'grand' and has big time radio smash hit written all over it (not just this track but the whole album, "You see colours"). Of course totally uncool.

Edit: Just saw that the wonderful ppl over at 24:hours has posted two tracks off Tomas Andersson's 'Copy Cat' 12" [bpitch, 2006] - so go get em if you missed it when I posted it a while ago. :-)

Monday, March 06, 2006

Pre breakfast post

Slightly fresher stuff this time, tech/minimal.

Dominik Eulberg & Gabriel Ananda -
Schierker Kreisel [Traum, 2006]
Newest Traum release. A side is also good, but the first half of it is a bit boring. This (B1) shines.

Sleeparchive - Bleep 04 [Sleeparchive, 2006]

Great EP, "Radio Transmission", with some pretty tasty tracks on it. I guess this one is the easiest to digest.

Patrick Chardronnet - Eve by day [Connaisseur, 2005]

The sound is very much like Jesse Somfay, and I dig that. Emotional house for grown ups.

Support the artists and labels by buying the stuff you like. Going to get myself a nice big cup of tea and some sandwhiches now.

Sunday botnik

Ait, time for a buffet with a loose robot theme.

Gridlok - The search
[Audio Blueprint, 2003]
Melodic, dnbish sweetness.
Ishkur calls the style/sub-genre Neurofunk - I love that name, heh. Neurofunk for the people!

I-F - Space invaders are smoking grass
[Leaded, 2001]
Classic but I just realized; take this track's lead synth and put freeform five's no more conversation vocals ontop of it, tweak around for a bit and you
almost got yourself mylo's remix of no more conversations. Grats.

Dynarec - Sickle
[Delsin, 2004]
French android-hiphop dystopian future music (electro) maker supreme. From the album "User Input".

Try electrokid's "
the robot within" mix if you want more. One hour sonic storytelling.

Since I constantly forget to put up buy links, here's a couple of awesome online stores that carry most if not everything I rant about:

Bookmark and use frequently.

RH PM KP AT

Do you want acid?

Plastikman - Krakpot [NovaMute, 1993]

In 1993 I was ten years old but more importantly Richie Hawtin released this. Feel the build up, indulge yourself in the atmosphere. For it is Incredible and Big. It would be totally ok with me if songs like this never ended. Think about it, a perpetual acid techno soundtrack.

I want to make a mash-up video of clips from American Psycho to it.

Lone

Going to shitty places in good company can be fun. But I'm tired of it. When I go out I want it to be more than "just" shooting the shit with friends. That's why I decided to go lone ranger style yesterday, and my first stop was Uppåt Framåt where Dimitrios was playing solid house instead of Heaven 23 where my friends where at. After that, around 00:30 I went to The Eye (Nefertiti) where Justice was playing instead of Sticky Fingers, and I even met some new people.

Justice (pictured to the left) was cool. They mixed their hard, 'difficult', noisy stuff with hits of the past to please the crowd. Successfully I might add. I liked it very much and felt like dancing more than a couple of times while getting enthusiastically more and more drunk. My stool vibrated heavily because of the volume and bass. They said their sthlm gig was 'OK'. I hope they liked GBG better than that ;-)

Tampopo - Sellafield Two [TRAPEZLTD 32]
(buy)
Yeah!

Vector Lovers - Capsule for one [Soma] (buy)
Now, calm down, get your act together and get back to the books you fucking party misfit!

I sometimes forget putting buy links to the shit I post, many apologizes for that.

Friday, March 03, 2006

Second minute

I am busy studying, mathematics and programming. And I should really stay in and do that for the rest of the weekend and the remaining days before the exams. But Justice is playing (@ Nefertiti) tonight. I have to go, I mean COME ON. So while I try to justify going to see Justice, suck on this:

Eyerer And Chopstick - She Loves It! (Audiofly Mix)

Not exactly new or anything, but it's nice and it was a bit since I posted anything in this vein.

Since Zshare has thrown a fit, I figured I'd re-upload this track
OMG introduced me to. First trance track I even remotely has been into, hehe. I also wanna send a big thanks to OMG for having a link to me, it accounts for about 95% of my traffic I think, haha - cheers mates!
Hertz - Once again
Up again.

Sneaky software

Uh, it's very strange when I find stuff in my slsk download dir containing new stuff that I have never heard of nor remember ever queing. Gangpol und mit for example. Where the fuck have I read/heard about these and what made me decide to download some? Oh well, their album "Disque Compact, Pièces Détachées" is down, the damage is done so to speak. Kinda cool blend of glitchy abstractness and chiptune happiness (le tambour), sometimes soft sometimes very hard - cool contrasts (l'oiseau). If you want a sound reference I'll just say glitchy/raw/dirty Toy with occasional vocals, ok? I'm too tired to go through their myspace (where they are listed as 'Electro / Pop / Comedy') and other page (couple of free tracks) - maybe you can make some sense of it. Bottom line is that I like it.

Gangpol und mit - Fessier (kap mambino t.o.c remix)
Not very representative of the album, but a fun track non the less (file under eurotechnopopglitchmonkeybanana).

I sniffed up what I thought was a leaked release of dr0005, "My left side" by Dark Vektor on Dona-li. What it in fact was though is ~2 min sample clips of the three tracks. It is driving me nuts because it's crazy good. I'm in a very dark heart electro robot mood at the moment. "My left side" contains a remix by Spinks (link points to two minute clip, it will make you want to stomp faces) who in turn played in Tokyo last august, as a cheap substitute for new full length dark vektor you may want to get spinks' live tokyo set (42 minutes of pretty bad ass heavy electro, sadly not too good audio quality). I so want to go to a big club playing shit like that. I can only imagine the madness.

L'amour a trois inspired me with Ulrich Schnauss - A million miles away and I just had to revisit this piece:
I'm not a gun - make sense & loose (ulrich schnauss remix)
Not quite in the million miles away league but close enough for now. I'm not a gun is John Tejada and Takeshi Nishimoto.

I saw Das experiment on SVT on tuesday, very cool. I had read about that experiment before which got me interested immedately. Absolutely mental, consider it recommended.

Bliphop, part II (mellow)

Calmer and so close to regular, 'classic' IDM that I'm not even sure there's a differance. To me I guess it's the beat that sticks out.

Manual & syntaks - Sunset rider (Golden sun, 2004 on Darla)

This can be a bit iffy the first time you hear it, I thought the whole album was too new-age when I heard it. But I can appreciate it now, with a little perspective. Imagine new-wave, slightly psychadelic electronic hippy hiphop. There's guitars and chanting in it.

Seven ark - Sixteen (Noise of the new, 2004 on Neoouija)

I had a real hard time picking a track from this artist. The album is very solid, but perhaps too much alike sounding. If you dig this one, be sure to check out the other smashing and moving songs. This is the most innocent and smooth, perfect electronic music ever.

Deceptikon - Sometimes you hear it coming (Lost subject, 2003 on Merck)

Bought this in London, I had just heard a couple of things on Merck and decided to nab it. Best impulse record purchase I've made. Very hiphop. "..we can sell records with the aid of percussion!"

Boards of canada - Peacock tail (The campfire headphase, 2005 on Warp)

I think it would have been better if I didn't chose a track from this particular BoC release to be honest. But I really couldn't be arsed ripping more from vinyl (yeah I'm a lazy bastard). So here we are, and boc has always had hiphopish dreamy beats, no exception here.

What's your favourite boards song? You think I've missed a track that belongs here? Tell me in the comments, please. (roygbiv = orgasm btw)

Part III (chiphop) is being worked upon, it will contain mash-up, video game styled picks (part I for reference).
