Summer Is Fast Upon Us .....

With that in mind i thought i would post some tracks that have a nice summer vibe these that i have chosen would sound just as good around 7 at night as the sun is going down,aswell as in the midday sun, Im not really a big fan of listening to cold minimal beats in the sunshine, Minimal with a vibe,which has funk, fair enough, but the likes of barem & jpls on a summer day just dont sound right, so anyway heres some that i have been listening too today, its been a nice sunny afternoon here, So ive been sat out in the garden with my laptop watching the world go by, these would sound just as good on your ipod as on a big stereo system, let these be the soundtrack to your summer.

The only instrumental piece on RJ's latest output - The Third Hand. And to me it's by far the best track. "Sweet piece" is also good tho.

Anyway I was thinking of changing the description seen in the title to this: "Music: techno, neo submarine pounding, panzer tronik, folk psych polka terror, dirty disco-freak-house, experimental dolphin music, toxic pop, cyborg electro, post dub reggae step hiphop, acid squibble jazz-core and much much more." Wolf eyes

On the 8th I had a small gathering at my place for some drinks then out to Nef and catch the last songs of Wolf Eyes playing live - heavy and evil death terror noise ambient. After that club Hotet kicked off. Not too crowded but had fun still.

Incidentally my lovely girlfirend gave me the Wolf eyes 12" The Driller as birthday present. It's gruesome and experimental.

We Dont Want No Fuss Or No Fight

Dubstep has only been around for a short while, but in that amount of time its caused a massive stir in the underground scene, nothing quite sounds like it it cant really be Tagged to one specific genre, it uses elements of Techno, Garage, D&B & Grime,which forms a sound like nothing ever heard before there are no rules in dubstep,or should i say no formulas,If you were to ask anyone who is into the sound what there top 3 Dubstep records were, 9 out of ten times i reckon this would come up along with Skreams Midnight Request line. This is definatly a dubstep anthem & i reckon people will look back on this record as a "Classic".

A Week Of Classics Old & New

A new week a new set of music, in recent posts there has been wonderfull classic Acid & Techno ,so i thought this week i would post some of my all time favourites & classics alike, Old & New so lets start of with "The Man With The Red Face" from Laurent Garnier, tbh i reckon this could be my all time number 1 record ,A big statement i know ,but whats not to love about this detroit' ish record with a Shuffling build up like no other a excellent jazzy sax which is proberly one of the best records sampling a sax i have ever heard, A record to play from start to finish 9.08mins of pure delight ,Sublime piece of music from the french man,Check also "Crispy Bacon" for an outstanding piece of techno.

Storm in time

Wow, the acid post was ridiculously popular. I'm guessing this won't come close, hehe. Anyways I realized I have been sleeping on hiphop for a while. So i browsed around for what's new and exciting or any other quality tunes I've missed out on. Here's what I found.

Cut chemist feat. Edan & Mr Lif - Storm [Warner bros, 2006]
Bionic shit! This is good hiphop, the kind of stuff I appreciate. A bit non-standard, but not too out there either. Had high expectations on this track since it's three names I quite dig, no disappointment.

Evidence - A moment in time (feat. Planet Asia) [ABB, 2007]
Very classic sound to this song, not really ground breaking in any aspect. But it's solid all around, can't help but nod my head to this.

Listened to RJD2's latest output (The third hand) as well, and he still is a top producer, but the vocals..hmm? Took a while to get used to, to be honest. An ok album though.

Anyone out there that want to tip me off about great, 2005-2007 hiphop tracks that I might have missed? Please, I'm so behind on the genre right now it's silly.

The Dirty Disco

So this Sunday is the 2nd birthday of the North of Englands premier club night the Dirty disco ,unfortunatly it wont be held at its spiritual home which is the Northern light ,a club with 3 different rooms a main room a side room and a very dark basement ,it wont be held here because the police decided to raid it & found nothing apart from a few (e,s) when they should of been concentrating on all the beer boys who go out looking for a fight not 2000 sweaty clubbers all going to the same place for the same thing that being the music ,anyway it will be held in mission a club thats recently had a 1 million pound face lift so im happy.Have a good weekend everybody & remember party hard but dont forget to go home!

Walls

Shitkatapult co-founder Sascha Ring aka Apparat has a new album in the pipeline - "Walls", due in may.

Quite a few of the tracks feature vocals which mostly fall flat to my ears. Some parts are quite bland, but there are a few standout songs as well: Limelight, Fractales pt1, Arcadia and You don't know me. But we've heard it all before. Perhaps Apparat needs a bit of Ellen Allien to reach full potential?

What happened to the Techno what happened to the music, what happened to the Techno what happened to the Underground, what happened to the fun.Wise words from Samuel L Session in his track "Can You Relate" He goes on about all the minimal producers etc & all the genres i have to agree alot of "Minimal" just dont cut it anymore, it needs something more than 13 mins of a few bleeps & tweeks here and there,Its just becoming another formula it needs change thankfully a few producers are realising this & changing it for the better.

I've been catching up on Merck's last releases, what a label. So much quality but too short life span! 40 Winks - Sound Puzzle and Deceptikon - Greater Cascadia has been rotating heavily here at home and in my ipod the last couple of days.
40 Winks is pure mellow instrumental, crunchy, soothing hip-hop - quality beats. Deceptikon (a favorite since his Lost Subject 12") is also hiphopish but more to the electronic(a) side of things, ya'know think Machine drum, a bit of Blamstrain etc.

Limikolen lakes of Stamp

Good morning. This weekend I have moved to a new place again. This time it's for a longer period of time (I hope). A small one bedroom+kitchen corner type of thing located pretty close to the city core.

Mr Eulberg has a new 12" out on Traum - Limikolen. The b-side is the fabolous Die Alpenstrandlaeufer Von Spiekeroog that could also be heard on his album out earlier this year (Heimische Gefilde). The a-side is brand spanking new though and it's eleven minutes of minimal Eulberg beats and blips, without much of a melody. On the sleeve you get a guide to birds.. so a lil' bit of bird techno again :-)


This summer a new festival is being arranged in Göteborg; Way Out West. Some decent bookings like The Go! Team and Primal Scream. Also The Besnard Lakes from Canada are coming, haven't heard them before. So, I checked 'em out and it's alright pop music.

Junior Stars

The Pluxus concert was awesome, loud and beautiful - with great visuals to boot. Jeans Team started out with a kraftwerkish touched track that I really liked but then ventured out into the happy-electro-dance-pop-kitsch swamp I'm not too big on.

This is a bit different from the eulberg track, here Quiet village aka matt edwards aka radio slave & joel martin, his partner on quiet village productions bring another excellent remix to the table. Saving The Animals!

I have a bit of a thing for tracks that are made to sound like animals /insects etc. Be it the shuffling of the porcupine in the wild or the sounds of kookabura freaking out in the jungle, a heard of elephants walking in the outback or even a troop of monkeys playing up. It makes me think of how the producer came to get these sounds & where the inspiration came from i mean if you clear you mind you can actually hear why they decided to name the track the porcupine or the gazebo etc especially with the porcupine from latex (aka Loco dice & Martin buttrich) so these are some i like i hope you will too & remember, whilst listening to them you might just think yeah i hear it, it does sound like the particular animal be it a elephant or a set of birds etc .

Pluxus live tonight

Tonight Pluxus i performing and I have tickets. Gonne be interesting cause I haven't heard a lot from their latest album Solid State (from 2006) until just now. Funckarma also has an album called just that by the way (but that one is from 2001).

Bird Techno Part 1

Dominik eulberg is a genius. Here on Stelldichein Des Westerwalder Vogelchores taken from his new album on Traum "Heimische Gefilde" (Be sure to check the whole album out!) he uses only bird samples which he has recorded himself & the end result is fascinating with some some sharp editing and studio work the end result is a track made up purely of different bird species mixed together to perfection.

First released in 1991 where the likes of andrew weatherall were giving it a huge amount of praise now back for 2007 on a different label & with a tasty remix package to choose from either the man from new york (Adult napper) his take on the remix is a brooding baseline & tripped out vocals with a moody sax or the (Martin buttrich) remix which im giving you here with a more repetative drum pattern & altogether warmer feel.

Hectica

Jörg Burger - Nova check [K2, 2007] (buy)
Perhaps better known as The Modernist, here the Burgerman releases on K2 a 12" called 'Polyform 1'. It's thick and quality minimal poppy techhouse without any rough edges. Sweet like syrup. Both sides of this record are equal in strength, 'Polyform' leaning more towards the lounge and 'Nova check' slightly dancier.

Superb light, floating electroish material almost reminiscent of silicon scally or the like. This is music for chilling out in the early spring sun these last days has offered us in Sweden. B1 of "Alsoran".

My weekend has been terrific. A bit of not too heavy clubbing on friday followed by chilling and a walk in the forest on saturday. Then again on sunday; heavy relaxing, eating ice cream in the sun and just enjoying the company of my girlfriend and walking about town.

I think its time for some "electro" proper electro mind you none of this tinny sounding electro house nonesense which is flooding the charts with cheesy 8o,s covers.It really does wind me up when "producers" and i use that term lightly will take a classic track from the 90,s or further back and basicly destroy it like the new MAW remixes of work there a disgrace to dance music & kenny dope & lil louie vega.This is just the tip of the iceberg though if you dig deeper there are much more diabolical remixes to be found everything from pink floyd to classics from the likes of civilles and cole - "deeper love" this particular track is a fave of mine. Growing up on a diet of old skool & classic warehouse anthems with huge pianos and acid baselines ,whilst the other kids would be listening to the sounds of the latest chart entry i would be down the local record store buying hardcore & drum & bass 13 years old i have always loved dance music i respect the artists & the sound they gave us be it acid house or classic chicago house or simply a bit of rare groove. So should all the new breed aka fedde le grande & mason etc etc they should stear well clear off tracks from earlier years & concentrate on the 15 -18 year old market who buy there music & those that dont know any better.

This producer has more guises than james bond if your clever you will work out who he is from the first post ,if you have no idea message us & and we will tell you ;)

Dig your own Rave

This weekend is going to be a good one for a start its my birthday on saturday & im going to see dirt crew do there stuff in leeds. Also you happen to be in luck as i keep getting emails telling me i need to delete some files for drive space.So i will be posting a few tracks to share in the coming week instead of deleting them.So its wmc week in miami do people really care anymore? theres been alot of bad press about miami over here about badly organised nights expensive entry prices over heavy security etc.Il give it a miss thankyou & go for sonar instead in june the line up looks very tasty indeed, anyway on with the music.

Next is a track "ne contsom a coltsom" taken from a highly underated compilation from {kompakt} "the line of nine" from Scsi-9 has to be one of my favourite albums from last year full of ambient electronica beautifull and chilled vibes with a splash of tech here & there. Scsi-9 are a duo from russia they have just released another album for 2007 which i would also highly reccomend.

Finally is a unreleased Britney spears "Breathe on me".... remixed by james holden. Had you worried for a while there didnt i.Bet you thought id gone mad and shaved all my hair off, this criminaly never got a proper release she refused holdens remixes so he very kindly put it up on his website for people to download back in 2004, the dub which im giving you is a swirly journey into typical james holden wonderland.

I,am a big fan of Trentemoller i have been ever since hearing champagne back in 2003 since then he has come leaps GIANT leaps & bounds with his glitchy dubby sound with numerous eps on different labels such as poker flat and out of orbit recordings where he has been behind a string of releases over the years .Then theres all his unofficial remixes be it robbie williams moby or the knife.Trentemoller has the gift to make tracks to suit the dancefloor & also make a wonderfull album like the last resort showing a more chilled electronic home listening side to his producing skills the last resort being nothing short of a masterpiece.Matt edwards aka radio slave gets remix duties here with Moan & i have to be honest i wasnt really struck with this at first but after playing it more i have come to like it alot this being the better of the remixes by a fraction mind you! the other is by trentemoller himself theres a nice dub and a vocal mix.Also radioslave puts a instrumental version into the package which doesnt really do it for me.Be sure to support the cause go out & buy this on {poker flat}
