Tengo

One of the records I bought while visting Over There was Yo La Tengo's "Today is the day!" [Matador, 2003]. Just wow. It really rocks my socks and therefore I shall give you two wonderful songs from it.

Yo La Tengo - Today is the day
(A1)
Yo La Tengo - Needle of death
(B1)
'Today is the day" is clattering rock with kind of classic guitars and fittingly ailing almost insipid vocals. "Neddle of death" is all sullen, carefully treading and demure pop. I don't know why but it remids me of Nico's "The fairest of the seasons", how odd.

I promise I'll try to get some new, fresh electronic stuff up here ASAP.

Edit: Just noticed - big words today. Jesus, haha.

:(

Autechre - Goz quarter [Warp, 1997]
This music isn't cool anymore. It's too nerdy. Of course I still love it to bits. Autechre at its finest, from the Envane EP.

Sorry for brief and infrequent postings lately, much on my mind and in my life going on at the moment thus disrupting the order of the Blog.

18:20

What a weekend, I'm wrecked - literally. Had a very weird attack today; started sweating like a mad man and could hardly breathe while my heart was racing and it started to itch in my fingers. Had to lie down, drink a glass of water and then after a few minutes I was alright again. It was pretty scary.

Zeigeist - Tar Heart
Apparently this has been around in the blogosphere (haha) a while, but heard it just now. Sounds like the knife. I like the production, not a fan of the vocals though.

+1

Just woke up, it's 5. Bbq and beer soon.

Tjark - Traum Lutzenkirchen Remix [FQ.Inside, 2006]
Arena techno!

Edit: still drunk, sorry
Edit2: Detta är riktigt bra!

Friday

It is friday again.

Egoexpress - Telefunken (Adolf Noise Mix)[Ladomat, 1999]
Feeling all Daft Punk with that bass line.

Ok, ok. One more for the mainstream dancers out there :)
Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World (Fischerspooner Mix)
I actually think this is pretty cool, maybe on the verge of "just too much".

I'm a bit busy, so here's an older tune.

The Go! Team - Bottle Rocket

Back

I was never gone! Heh. My mini vacation was great. I'm gonna post some of the stuff I bought.

Jake Fairley - Frantic [Kompakt extra, 2004]
While checking out some of the kompakt extra stuff in
611, this A side grabbed my attention immediately. Superb evilish techno! The b-side by Peter Grummich is not too shabby either :-)

Dynarec - Component zero [Vaporware, 2005]
Master of slightly unorthodox electro featured here on RC for the third time now (oh my!). Spooky male vocals coupled with mostly straight forward beats and synths makes this track a stomper.

God damnit, my beloved technics 1200 is starting to act up (even more than it usually do), the start/stop button doesn't affect it right away sometimes but instead has a delay of up to 5 seconds(!), and I can't go from 45rpm to 33 without first shutting it off - what's up with that?! It also sometimes just randomly stops spinning and I have to press start again. Bah, maybe it's worth repairing it, a new one is just too expensive for me right now.

Greetings from Philly

Yo all. Just reporting in, letting you know that I'm alive and well. The weather is fantastic, sunny and warm - just the way a frozen swede likes it (especially after an abnormaly long winter). Payed my favorite Philadelphia record store (611) a visit today and came out $64 shorter. Here's what I got:

  • Ozy - Lingo (remixes) [Trapez, 2004]
  • Jake Fairley / Peter Grummich - Speicher 23 [Kompakt extra, 2004]
  • Dynarec - Component zero [Vaporware, 2005]
  • Yo la tengo - Today is the day [Matador, 2003]
  • MD - MD remixes [Merck, 2001] - Very happy to have found this one.
  • Legowelt vs Orgue Electronique - Untitled [Vynalogica, 2002]
  • Plastikman - Plastique [Plus8, 1994]
Tonight I'm going to see 76:ers vs Washington Wizards. Go philly! And tomorrow it's NYC time for me and my bros. Håll i hatten.

See ya

Tomorrow I'm off to the states for a little more than a week of shopping and clubbing. Will try to post a bit while there, but don't count on it. Cheers fellas.

The Organ - Steven Smith
[Talitres, 2005] (buy)
Quaint pop from the organ, with a scent of Smiths and the Cure. The whole album is very solid and goes under the name 'Grab that gun' and has been spinning frequently here the last few days. Full of little delicious pop gems, the perfect soundtrack to slit your wrists to. Sinking hearts and Memorize the city are two other great tracks.

Steadycam - Knock Kneed
[K2, 2006] (buy)
Du di, du di, du di, du di, du di. Swedish David Janzen on K2 making some nice techno. Haven't heard the b side yet.

Check this out (nsfw):

"hahaha u gotta love the way keith thinks" - quoted for truth. :-)

10:47: Minimal

Popnoname - On the Run [Italic, 2006] (buy)
House with soft edges. The 12" is called 'You are popnoname'.

Mike Shannon - Sudden moves
[Scape, 2006] (buy)
The album is called 'Possible conclusions to stories that never end' and has a lot of mixed styles. Most of it minimal in nature. I like this one the most.

Donnacha Costello - Bear Bounces Back (Troy Pierce's Too Sad To Bounce Mix)
[Minimise, 2006] (buy)
Troy Pierrce remixes Donnacha Costello's Bear bounces back and puts it firmly in minimal land. Great build up, stays pretty quiet, chugging along, never lashes out or gets crazy. Smooth and great!

Maps and trees

Picking right up where I left off. More sounds for you.

Lars Wickinger - Blutrausch [Traum, 2006] (buy)
Mintech house. Traum is just über. Dunno much about this Lars fella though. Except that this release is spot on, cheers.

TV-Resistori - Serkut Rakastaa Paremmin [Fonal, 2006]
Why hellow thar. Tv-resistori, makers of splendid, sweet and fuzzy finnish indiepop. I want more of this infectious lalala stuff. This track is from Fonal's latest compilation called 'Summer and Smiles of Finland'. Aaah this music, sun, some green (dry) grass and cold beer and good friends. I dunno where to buy this yet, but be sure to pick it up if you can!

Tomorrow will be just as good, got two (or more) tracks ready to unload.

JIT

I admit the last three previous posts has been a bit boring. Sorry, but sometimes I just don't have the energy needed to make quality updates (and I hate myself for it. Almost).
[rant]Woke up today drenched in cold sweat, as I often do nowadays... fuck it. Tickets and everything is sorted out for my US (Philly+NYC) trip, just have to go and pick up my new passport and I'm all set. Getting a haircut tomorrow, about friggin' time (again). Have some shit behind me in school, having difficulties to motivate myself to be honest.[/rant]

On with the musics.

Redshape - Coffee and cigarettes
[Delsin, 2006] (buy)
B1 off the cool Shaped world ep from dutch artist Redshape. It is techno and it sounds good. Dancefloorish. I like the title also, reminds me of the
movie with the same name from 2003, it was ok. Title track is decent, the remix of it slightly better imo (minimal style). Worth buying, of course.

Der zyklus - Formenverwandler
[2001, Gigolo] (buy)
From new to old(er), here we have the man behind Dopplereffekt as Der Zyklus for a classic electro track. Both kraftwerk and drexciya comes to mind. Originally released 2001 on 'Der Zyklus II' ep on International Deejay Gigolo records. Now, 2006, re-released on Frustrated funk alongside other smashing zyklus tracks on the '...' ep. Check, check.
Edit: God damnit, oh my gosh posted this yesterday. Didn't check their blog then. Bah :)

The chance is pretty slim (to none), but I'll go ahead and try anyway. If you happen to know any great clubs or record stores in Philadelphia (know some here, but share anyway) or NYC (manhattan preferably) that I shouldn't miss out on - pretty please drop a comment.

12:20 -12:27

I'm losing my edge.

Ural 13 Diktators - Blind Love (Huntemann remix) [Alphabet city, 2004]
Electro house remix of kitschy synth electro track.

Slagsmålsklubben - Hit me hard
[Beat that!, 2003]
Swedish chip synth with Fight Club samples.

Edit: OMG are first as always, check out: Eyerer And Chopstick - b1-Electric (Williams Remix). Ace.

Cloud

With a lingering backlordness (hangover) and no interesting new music in my speakers I hereby post two old tracks ait. Care to recommend me any music I should get? Going to the states soon and will shop mucho.

Medasyn - The battle feat. lady sovereign
Dj shadow feat. roots manuva - Gdmfsob (unkle uncensored)

Thursday, March 30, 2006

13:17 -14:12

Arf, I've catched a rather annoying cold. Sore throat and my nose is fubared. Good old Bauri treats us with some unreleased carefully crafted, elegant electroish tracks on his blog - really recommended that you pick these up (<3 purple nights).

eq^obefo
union palm
Haha! Two tracks I made six years ago. Stumbled upon 'em while browsing through my old HD. Have fun :-)

Phunk

D-styles & Dj flare - Carcass of mutilated humanoid [Slit Wrist, 2000]
Fifteen minutes of insane scratching techniques over a frantic electro beat grinding away while the cuts are layered ontop. Dope and menacing from back in the days of 1999, from the record 'Pharaohs of funk'. Mad scratch session, aah yeah f-f-freshh.

Frucktals

Lindstrom - I Feel Space (Freeform Reform Parts 1&2) [Playhouse, 2006] (buy)
A side of the I feel space remix 12", the B side is also great (even better in some ways). The space continues to haunt us, bitter sweetly so.

Breakestra - Stand up! [Ubiquity, 2005] (buy)
Funk is rare around here, but I love these guys. From their 2005 album 'Hit the floor'. Will be released as a single in april (the 11th?).

Funk D'Void & Phil Kieran - White lice
[Soma, 2006] (buy)
Glasgow producer Funk D'void of Soma fame will bless GBG this upcoming friday by playing at The Eye. No doubt, it will be mind blowing. This is how his latest release together with Phil Kieran sounds. The b-side contains a remix from Lee van Dowski which is slightly heavier.

Testing file-forge, tell me in the comment section if it sucks. Anyway, I copped some more records.. Praveen's Backed by spirits CD - was a little disappointed, too ambient and not very exciting at all, still a couple of nice tracks (I really digged his free demo/sample songs on his homepage). Better was Quench's Punctuated sampler on merck, very nice.

The picture was made by my very own 'Frucktal' generator program, am I not special?

Pom pom

Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm totally uninspired.

Alex Smoke - Snider [Soma, 2006] (buy)
Glasgow producer Alex Smoke's newest LP, 'Paradolia' contains many interesting tracks. This is one of them.

Movin' on

Vice is sometimes funny and I quote (from Vol2, Nr 6, "The food issue", page 22):

Apples should be illegal. What a terrible food. They never satisfy your hunger and they make way too much noise. Have you ever heard someone bite into an apple? It's disgusting. It sounds like a tree is falling inside someone's skull. Also, people look smug when they eat an apple. Like, "Ah, you know. Just eatin' an apple, doin' normal stuff. Readin' the paper." Gross. Stop eating apples. It is a pointless food.
He then goes on about some other foods that should be illegalised, like mangoes, pears, melons, walnuts, sangria, cookies dipped in milk, and lobster. I think lobsters are cool tho (\/)_oO_(\/) *clik clak*.

Ams uno - My contribution
[Labeless Illtelligence, 2005]
Yo! Ams delivers neat lyrics with a fluid flow on a wicked production. Uh huh.

Not breathing - Night driving
[KimoSciotic, 2004]
This is what he was thinking when making this song I think: "Bleep, blip, pew pew, glitch, thomp, plonk, zap, tick, du du du, bzzzz, crash."

Alex under - Fortuito (orginal mix) [Plus8, 2006] (buy)
Techno debut from the Spanish producer Alex Under, the EP is called 'Collage'.

Did not see handsomeboy technique yesterday, but did go to see some friends play their harmless pop - it was nice. Testing savefile.com for the Not breathing track, sux or rox?

Nondeterministic

I get very easily excited about music, but there's just so much good stuff out there. Here's some more things you shouldn't miss out on.

Florent - G Net
[K2, 2005] (buy)
Thick, pounding warm and handsome techno on Kompakt's off shoot K2 sub-label. Worthwhile your time, for sure.

Dole & Kom - Flight 815
(A1)
Dole & Kom - Monster eats the pilot
(B1) [Elektro.Komfort, 2006] (buy)
Superior quality rough tech-house on these two's newest four track EP, "Monster Eats The Pilot" which is one of those rare releases where every single track is awesome. So I had a bit of trouble choosing what song to post, I hope this selection makes you go buy the record.
